3. INS Khukri Memorial, Diu

Indian Navy Frigate Khukri was one such vessel. She was destroyed by three torpedoes launched by a Pakistani submarine on September 12, 1971, during the Indo-Pak War. She sunk 40 nautical miles off the coast of Diu, taking with her a crew of 18 officers and 176 sailors. The ship’s then-commanding officer, Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla, who later received the Mahavir Chakra (Posthumous) of the Indian Navy, made the decision to perish together with the battleship. The courageous deed of Capt. Mulla and his brave crew honours the Indian Navy’s greatest traditions by serving as a bright example of unwavering spirit and unwavering courage. The INS Khukri Memorial, which is located on the hills at Chakratirth beach, was dedicated on December 15, 1999.
